UK Tom Yardy crowned 4WD Buggy Champion at 2021 Mid West Supercup juillet 28, 2021 by Chris Laisser un commentaire The final round of the 2021 Mid West Supercup in the 4WD Buggy class was held this past weekend at Kidderminster MCC track, England. The track is multi surface, very fast and with a series of technical bumpy sections and off camber corners. The format for this round was controlled practice, four rounds of qualifying and just a single leg main. The weather was warm and dry but overcast, meaning traction was pretty high. In the first round of qualifying, the XB4’21’s Tom Yardy felt much better than in practice but Tom would make a number of errors which left him 2nd in the round. Tom needed to make the car a little easier to drive so he cut some extra rows from his front tires and moved to a thicker front roll bar. He managed a clean 5 minutes in the second round to take the round TQ. For the third qualifier Tom changed to a 120 degree insert in the front active diff but this change was too aggressive and again many errors followed. To grab the TQ Tom would need to do a better job in the final qualifier – with the car switched back to how it was set previously he was able to drive a clean run, taking the overall TQ. With that secured it meant that Tom was guaranteed to win the championship as long as he finished in the top 4 in the main final. For the final Tom decided to make a change to the anti squat and see if he could make the car easier to drive in the bumpy sections. Unfortunately this change caused a lot of understeer and Tom made an early error in the final, dropping him to 2nd. Despite turning the fastest lap of the day to close down the leader Tom wasn’t able to get by – but 2nd was enough to win the 4WD Buggy championship! Ben Pugh (Schumacher Racing) took the runner-up spot while Mat Dodd (XRAY) rounded out the top 3 overall.
