Ohio, USA 1st Annual XRAY Challenge – Report juin 30, 2021 by Chris Laisser un commentaire This weekend was the 1st Annual XRAY Challenge at Brown’s Hobbyshop and Raceway in Irondale, Ohio. The track has been there for 17 years and always had a really good local following with club races every week above 75 entries. For their first big race but organizers were able to get 290 entries! The program ran perfect with Jared Bardin in control of the race directing. Jeff and Shawn Brown and BJ built a great layout, fun for everyone but still challenging. In qualifying Paul Ciccarello (XRAY/Picco/Hobbywing/Motiv/AKA) was able to go 5 for 6 in TQs for the three classes he raced only getting bested by Ryan Lutz (WRC Racing Team/Alpha Plus/Tekin/AKA) in the last round of E-buggy keeping him second overall. Paul also was able to TQ plus 40 E-buggy and E-truggy while Tristan Beiter (XRAY/Picco/AKA) was able to TQ the Nitro Truggy class. First up was the E-truggy main, Paul got off to a good start but then made and few mistakes and Ty Payne (Tekno RC) made the pass and took off with the win with Paul finishing second and Phil Carey (XRAY) in third. Nitro Truggy saw Tristan check out from the tone and take the win from Andrew Grunkmyer (Kyosho/OS.Engines) in 2nd and Will Walker in 3rd. Next up was plus 40 E-buggy. Paul got a great start right away and pushed the pace the first few laps to break away then ran clean the rest of the race to take the win! Aaron Buran (HB Racing) came in second and Rod Schuman (Team Associated/Reedy) in third. The last race of the day for me was the E-buggy race. Paul made a mistake on the first lap and fell back a bit. Then he got into third for most of the race until Gaven Gibler (XRAY) caught him and made the pass. Ryan brought home the win from Joe Bornhorst (Tekno RC/BLOK Engines/Tekin/JConcepts) and Gaven in 2nd and 3rd respectively. The last race of the night was Nitro Buggy. The beginning was pretty exciting with Tristan, Gaven and Adam Johnson (XRAY) all fighting for second place keeping pace with Ryan until they made some errors. Tristan was able to take home 2nd and Adam 3rd. Organizers plan to hold the race again next year the same weekend and same track only next time it will be a 2 day race instead of 1.
