Davide Ongaro is 2024 1/8th nitro buggy world champion

Davide Ongaro has just written another page in his record book, but also in that of the sport, as the only driver to have won 3 world titles in the 1/8th off-road class, and in a row! After the disappointment of the European championship, a title he wanted to win at home, the Italian driver had to fight off fierce, well-prepared opposition to win.

Once again, Davide built up his victory step by step, trying to improve the performance of his trusted Team Associated RC8B4.1 throughout the week. Doubt must have crossed his mind when Juan Carlos Canas started to get faster and faster in qualifying. The two semi-finals will be just as close as the qualifiers! Juan Carlos would win the fastest of the 2 and start from pole position for the final.

The drivers all had a tricky start, and the pressure was really on. Juan Carlos made a few small mistakes, as did Davide, and the gap between the 2 drivers remained unchanged until Juan Carlos suffered an engine flame-out a few metres from the refuelling pit. Once Juan Carlos was pushed further back, his team-mate Elliott Boots tried to keep pace with Davide.

Elliott will run a really solid race and he’ll be the only one not to concede a lap. In the end, the tires held up well, but this experience will certainly lead the brands to react so as not to find themselves in a similar situation again. Given the talent of the drivers lining up on the grid, Davide’s achievement is all the more impressive. The question is, what’s the limit of this guy who seems to be unstoppable? The one who succeeds will have earned his cup!
